Laurie McPhillips, District 3 (R-Plainfield)
Appointed to the board in 2010. Serves on the following county board committees:
McPhillips worked in Will County Government for over 23 years, beginning as Executive Secretary to the County Board Administrator. She was later promoted to County Board Administrator and then Director of Operations to the Will County Chief Executive. Her responsibilities included overseeing the daily operations of the Will County Executive’s Office, including over 1,000 employees and department heads in all 15 county departments. She was also responsible for preparing and implementing the county’s $241+ million annual budget.
In 2004,
McPhillips was elected to the office of Will County Recorder of
Deeds. During her tenure in the position, she accomplished numerous
technology advancements. These included creating free web-based
access of public records to all governmental bodies, combining four
computer systems into one, and implementing a state-of-the-art land
records system. She also reduced expenses by voluntarily cutting
personnel costs and opened the first satellite office in Bolingbrook
to better serve Will County taxpayers.
McPhillips has
been a licensed Realtor for over 17 years and is actively involved
in numerous community groups. Among them, she is President of Will
County Habitat for Humanity, President of the Exchange Club of
Joliet, and Chairman of the Wheatland Township Plan Commission. She
has been honored with various awards and, most recently, received
the 2009 Gleaner Outstanding Community Service Award. McPhillips has
been married to her husband Russ Weglarz for 16 years, and they live
in Plainfield with their son, John.
