As a resident of Will County for more than three decades, County Board Chairman Jim Moustis has witnessed the explosive development that has made the county one of the fastest growing places in America. Perhaps it is for that reason that he places a premium on maintaining a high quality of life for the county’s 650,000 residents. Will County’s affordable housing, its outstanding schools, abundant forest preserves and other open spaces consistently make it a highly desirable location in the metropolitan Chicago region.

  Moustis has served on the board since 1993.

As the leader of the Will County Board since 1998, Chairman Moustis has made holding the line on taxes his number one priority. Despite the increasing demands on county government, Moustis has managed to reduce the County tax rate every year he has been chairman and deliver a balanced budget.  This low tax strategy as well as other policy initiatives has served Will County well, resulting in a strong economy, robust growth in all sectors and a coveted AA bond rating for county finances.  

Next to keeping a watchful eye on county expenditures, the Chairman has placed a high priority on Will County’s transportation needs. Through aggressively pursuing every available state and federal dollar, the county has leveraged its resources to provide for consistent improvements in highways and other public infrastructure. With the opening of the south extension of I-355 through the heart of Will County and the prospect of a third Chicago airport in Eastern Will County, more development will come and Moustis is committed to a policy of sound and smart growth for the County.  Part of that smart growth policy includes careful management of land use and storm water infrastructure as well as public safety issues including construction of a new county jail and other judicial facilities.  

            First elected to the County Board in 1992, Chairman Moustis also serves as the Chairman of the Executive Committee.

            He also holds office as the Supervisor of Frankfort Township. 

Moustis currently resides in Frankfort with his wife. They have six children and nine grandchildren.
