Board member talks civics with elementary school students
Ragan Freitag discusses voting process, elections at Joliet school
JOLIET, IL- Will County Board member Ragan Freitag (R-Wilmington) last week visited with third grade students at Forest Park Individual Education School in Joliet to share her experiences and answer questions about the voting process and elections.
"This was a wonderful opportunity to encourage young people to get involved in their community and participate in civic groups like student council because their voices and choices absolutely matter," said Freitag. "One day we will look to them to run for city council, county board, and even President of the United States."

Freitag spoke with Ms. Annie Henschen's third grade glass about a variety of topics including petition signing, how candidates campaign, the voting process, and the importance of working in a bipartisan fashion to help constituents and find solutions to important issues. Freitag's visit coincided with the class learning about elections and the democratic system of government. Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz Voots provided Freitag with sample ballots, magnets and stickers to give to the students.
"The students were so inspired by Ragan's story and knowing they can make a difference with their vote," said Henschen.
