JOLIET--Will County Board Speaker Denise Winfrey has named Moira Dunn, a seasoned prosecutor in the State's Attorney's office, as chief of staff for the newly seated 26-member county board. Dunn brings nearly a decade of experience in Will County government to her new position. The Will County Board Chief of Staff serves at the pleasure of the majority party.

Six new Board Members sworn into officeJOLIET – Long-time Will County Board member Denise Winfrey (D-Joliet) today made history when she was sworn in as the first-ever female Speaker of the Will County Board. As leader of the majority party on the board, Winfrey was elected to the top post Monday where she will serve as the chief constitutional officer of the 26 member body.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to assume the Speakership of this great institution and I pledge to work in the best interests of the 700,000 people who call Will County home,” Winfrey said. “ Ours is a thriving, vibrant and growing county that holds much untapped potential for strong economic growth and I aim to direct that growth toward a higher standard of living and a better quality of life for our citizens.” JOLIET -- As construction gets set to begin on a new Health Department facility for Will County, the County Board has entered into a project labor management agreement (PLA) that is designed to ensure high quality, cost effectiveness and timeliness. The county board inked the agreement with, the Three Rivers Construction Alliance, the Will and Grundy Counties Building Trades Council and Leopardo Inc during its October board meeting.
The Will County Board announced today that they have received federal funding of $500,000 to improve the security and safety of seven facilities and their surrounding grounds within the Homer Community Consolidated School District 33-C.
“We’re very pleased that our grant for school safety improvements was accepted by the U.S. Attorney General’s office,” said Will County Board Member Mike Fricilone (R-Homer Glen). “The Will County Board is always looking to partner with other agencies to seek out alternative funding sources.” Finance committee votes adjust corporate levyJOLIET – The Will County Board Finance Committee voted today to adjust the corporate tax levy down from what the County Executive has proposed. The adjustment would continue to lower the tax rate on the county portion of residents’ tax bills. If approved at the October Board Meeting, the rate could drop to approximately 0.58. The rate last year was 0.61. The Finance Committee voted 5-3 along party lines to reduce the levy increase by approximately $300,000. The board has lowered the tax rate for the last three years in a row.
Project will improve safety and reduce congestion in Will CountyJOLIET – Will County Board members joined Governor Bruce Rauner, Illinois Transportation Secretary Randy Blankenhorn, and New Lenox Mayor Tim Balderman this week to begin the process of rebuilding the interchange at U.S. 30 and Interstate 80 in New Lenox. The rebuilding project is a major component of the Freight Mobility plan that the County Board drafted last year and is now implementing.
County Board works to bring resources for I-80 and opioid epidemic JOLIET – A Will County Board delegation has just returned from Washington DC where they met with White House administration officials about securing resources for local projects including public health and infrastructure. The conference was exclusively for Illinois’ elected officials.
County Board will collect 20 payments of $500,000JOLIET – The Will County Board collected their first $500,000 from the City of Joliet per an intergovernmental agreement to fund construction of the new county courthouse. The agreement runs through 2037 for a total of $10,000,000.
Phase two of storm drain improvements set to beginJOLIET – The second phase of storm drain construction in the Fairmont neighborhood in Lockport Township was announced by the Will County Board today. Continued construction of the new storm water management system will bring additional relief to residents. Fairmont has long been plagued by flooding issues and phase one of construction was recently completed.
Check will kickstart Sept. fundraiser for Children’s Advocacy CenterJOLIET – Officials from the Will County Board today accepted a $10,000 check from Citgo to help fund the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), an arm of the Will County State’s Attorney’s office. The funds will be used to underwrite the only fundraising event of the year for the CAC, “Men Who Cook,” to be held September 22 at the Chicagoland Speedway.
