County Board will collect 20 payments of $500,000
The intergovernmental agreement was critical to secure funding for the construction of the new courthouse in Joliet.
"This $500,000 is the first of twenty such payments that Joliet has voted to send to Will County as their contribution to the new Courthouse," said Will County Board Member and Finance Committee Chairman Mike Fricilone (R-Homer Glen, District 7).
The Joliet City Council also agreed that the next 19 payments would be made on or before June 21 for the years 2019-2037.
“It’s wonderful to see the county and the city of Joliet cooperating on this project which will improve the quality of life and economic vibrancy for residents of Joliet and all of Will County,” said Will County Board Member Denise Winfrey (D-Joliet, District 8).
A groundbreaking for the new courthouse took place in December of 2017. The new courthouse is expected to be completed in late 2020.
The new courthouse will be a welcome and wonderful addition to downtown Joliet that will serve our county for many decades to come," said Will County Board Member and Capital Improvements Committee Chariman Ray Tuminello (R-New Lenox, District 12).
