Phase two of storm drain improvements set to begin
JOLIET – The second phase of storm drain construction in the Fairmont neighborhood in Lockport Township was announced by the Will County Board today. Continued construction of the new storm water management system will bring additional relief to residents. Fairmont has long been plagued by flooding issues and phase one of construction was recently completed.
“The relief that the new storm water system will bring to the residents in Fairmont is immense,” said County Board Member and Minority Whip Lauren Staley-Ferry (D-Joliet) who also represents the Fairmont neighborhood in District 9. “This project will dramatically improve people’s lives.”
The Will County Board approved a $169,491 contract with Austin Tyler Construction at its June board meeting. Of the seven companies that submitted bids, Martam was the lowest. Like phase one of the drainage project, phase two is being paid for with a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
“I’m extremely happy that the board continues to address the flooding problems in the Fairmont neighborhood,” said Will County Board Member Annette Parker (R-Crest Hill), who represents District 9, which includes Fairmont. “Phase one went well and we’re happy to keep working through the community with these upgrades.”
The Will County Board has been working to ease flooding issues in Fairmont for years. This second contract will build on the existing system that was recently completed after the County Board approved the phase one contract in September of 2017.
Construction is expected to continue northward through the neighborhood as it is completed.
