Will County Board Member to Speak on NACo Health Roundtable
Will discuss changing landscape of national healthcare
JOLIET, IL – Will County Board member Denise Winfrey (D-Joliet) has been selected to participate in the Healthy Counties Roundtable Discussion for the National Association of Counties (NACo) this April in Hartford, Connecticut.
“I’m proud to represent Will County at this roundtable discussion,” said Winfrey. “I know access to and coverage by affordable healthcare is something many people are concerned about with potential changes to the healthcare system looming in the future. I will make sure to make the concerns of my constituents known at the national level.”

The Healthy Counties Roundtable Discussion will convene a small group of county leaders to discuss health priorities and what the changing national landscape will mean for county health. NACo’s Healthy Counties Initiative, which is hosting the discussion and of which Will County is a member, aims to help counties address health issues on a local level. For example, the Initiative addresses community public health and wellness programs, effectively implementing the Affordable Care Act, and care for vulnerable populations, among other topics.
This roundtable discussion will address concerns by the Will County Board, the Will Grundy Medical Clinic, and the Will Grundy Center for Independent Living. Winfrey is a board member for all three organizations and hopes to put forward each organization’s concerns about proposed changes in healthcare funding. The roundtable is scheduled to take place from April 5 to 6.
NACo is the only national organization that represents county government in the United States. As a unified voice, NACo has the ability to present issues to federal legislators and make the needs and opinions of counties count at the national level. NACo also works to improve the public’s understanding of the role of county government. It facilitates the sharing of innovative solutions through education, research, and value-added services to save counties and taxpayers money.
