Joe VanDuyne, District 1 (D-Wilmington) County Board Speaker
Will County Board Speaker Joe VanDuyne, who currently serves in the top leadership role on the County Board, is a union electrician who has a long history of dedicated public service.
A longtime Wilmington resident, Speaker VanDuyne was first elected to represent Will County Board District 1 in 2018. Throughout his tenure, he has served on several County Board committees, including six years as chair of the Public Works and Transportation Committee. In 2024, his fellow County Board Members appointed him to their highest leadership position by naming him the Will County Board Speaker. As a County Board Member, he also sits on the Will County Forest Preserve District Board of Commissioners. He served one term as the President of the Forest Preserve Board. Prior to his County Board election, he served as a Wilmington Alderman from 2013 to 2017. Speaker VanDuyne’s commitment to public service is complemented by nearly three decades of experience as a union electrician, most recently working for the City of Joliet. He is a proud member of IBEW Local 176 and AFSCME Local 440, holding active union cards with both. “Working in the trades has given me a broad perspective as a County Board Member,” he said. “I have always tried to find the balance between development and quality of life for the hardworking people of Will County.” Outside of his official duties, Speaker VanDuyne is deeply involved in his community. He and his wife, Billie, have been married for 24 years and are the proud parents of a son and daughter. Since their children were young, he has coached youth and high school sports, including football, softball, baseball, soccer, and wrestling. |
