Board members support local law enforcement
District 6 representatives make $500 donation, help fund body cameras for Braidwood police

JOLIET, IL- Will County Board members Don Gould (R-Shorewood) and Ragan Freitag (R-Wilmington) answered the call of Braidwood police to help improve public safety and increase transparency by making a donation to fund body cameras. The department has asked local residents for help to offset the cost to equip its 17 officers.
"This is a very worthwhile project, and I am glad to support Braidwood police,” said Gould.
Braidwood has registered with BodyCameraDonations.com for residents to donate directly to the project. The department currently has and uses three body cameras and would like to have an additional 10. This would provide enough for two to three per shift.
“As elected officials, we always look for ways to increase transparency at all levels of government, including our local law enforcement community,” said Freitag. “This donation is one way we accomplish this goal and also help to improve public safety and police community relations. We encourage residents to contribute to this important cause and support officers that put their lives on the line every single day for us.”

The body cameras cost between $600 and $700 each, and police departments around the country are looking for ways to provide them for their officers, including the Will County Sheriff’s Department. Last year, Illinois was one of the first states in the country to pass legislation creating comprehensive law enforcement rules for body cameras.
