This essentially means that instead of two property tax installments, residents have the option to pay their property taxes in four installments.
“We examined our options for easing the financial burden on residents during the COVID-19 pandemic and this was a way for us to provide relief quickly,” said Speaker of the Board Denise Winfrey (D-Joliet).
“My staff and I are working hard to implement the change in the payment schedule,” said Will County Treasurer Tim Brophy. “There are some challenges that we need to work through but I’m grateful for my talented and dedicated staff who are going over our systems make sure things go as smoothly as possible.”
Brophy added that many residents have already made their first payments and that the numbers appear to be on track with previous years.
“We are always looking at ways to lessen the burden on taxpayers,” said County Board Member and Minority Leader Mike Fricilone (R-New Lenox). “And we will continue to seek ways to help our taxpayers, especially in these uncertain times. It’s the responsible thing for us to do.”
